Therapy / Counseling
I use an integrative approach to therapy, pulling from a variety of theories to find the right fit for each individual client with a focus on healing, wholeness, and growth. I enjoy working with my clients to build and strengthen the foundations of their mental and emotional wellness through increasing somatic awareness, deepening of connection to emotions, mindfulness and self-care. In a busy world where it is so easy to become overstimulated, having tools to care for and protect our mental health is vital. We start with a discussion around concerns and/or symptoms bringing you in for therapy and from there work together to discuss the best approach to achieve the goals we will set together. I also have advanced training in the following, and keep up to date on advances and research of each modality.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
CBT is a form of talk therapy that recognizes the relationship between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Primarily, the impact our thoughts and negative thought patterns, can have on our behaviors. Through CBT, clients learn strategies to identify and challenge unhealthy thought patterns, often leading to an increase in motivation and an increased capacity for coping with life’s difficulties.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based, structured approach that uses bi-lateral stimulation (eye movement, sound, or tactile) to stimulate the brain in order to process and resolve negative or distressing emotions and/or experiences. EMDR is often used to resolve symptoms of PTSD and traumatic experiences, and is also effective in treating symptoms relating to anxiety, depression, and many other mental health concerns.
Trauma Informed Care
Recognizing the impact of trauma and providing care that increases a client’s sense of felt-safety, provides support and collaboration and empowers the client. Trauma, large and small, can leave a lasting imprint on our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Early childhood trauma can significantly impact brain development and the our ability to self-regulate our nervous system. When viewing a person’s overall wellbeing, considering elements of trauma is an important piece to understanding the whole picture and providing the most effective and complete care.
Heart Math (BioFeedback)
HeartMath is a form of BioFeedback using heart rate variability as a measure. It uses a small device, clipped to the client’s earlobe to measure heart rate variability and provides the client with visual feedback on a computer screen. The client learns how to bring more stability to their heart rate variability. Clients may see improvement in areas such as sleep and focus and decreases in areas such as stress, anxiety, and depression.
Neurofeedback Therapy
Neurofeedback, also referred to as EEG Biofeedback or brain training, is a form of biofeedback used to reduce dysregulation and increase self-regulation. By addressing dysregulation within the nervous system, Neurofeedback can help reduce symptoms relating to many common ailments such as sleep difficulties, migraines, and poor focus as well as many conditions such as ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, and trauma . It is a non-invasive treatment in which electrodes are placed on the client’s head to measure brainwaves and reflected back to the client through the use of visual, auditory, and tactile cues. The brain processes this information subconsciously and works to optimize its own performance. Neurofeedback works with the brain’s own ability to change and modify (neuroplasticity). At NeuMind, we use the Othmer Method, which is protocol based and directly follows the client’s symptoms to optimize the Neurofeedback frequencies and treatment planning.
So what should a client expect? To start, we complete a thorough assessment of symptoms and client history to identify the areas of the brain we will focus on. In the session, the therapist places electrodes on the head and from there the client can sit back and enjoy the game, visual or video they are watching. The therapist will check in with you throughout and will work with you to track symptoms both in session and between sessions.
A typical treatment plan includes approximately 20 sessions, though each individual may require more or less depending on severity of symptoms, response to training, and additional internal or external influences within the individual’s circumstances.
Peak Performance Neurofeedback
Many athletes, executives, and others who work in environments requiring you to be alert, focused, and in the moment can benefit from neurofeedback. Can it increase your skill level? The simple answer is ,no. But what neurofeedback can do is help calm mind chatter, reduce anxieties, increase self-regulation so that you can be more present and concentrated in using your skillset and working at your full potential.
Corporate Team Consultation
The primary goal of team consultation is to help reduce stress and burnout while increasing workplace satisfaction, productivity, and overall mental well being by addressing team dynamics with a focus on connection, trust, and self-care. To begin, I typically conduct an initial session with the manager or team lead to learn more about the current workplace culture, structure, concerns, etc. Next, we collaboratively identify goals and choose a plan that will help us achieve these goals. Perhaps there are areas for growth or we may identify that we simply need to support the amazing work culture you have already created. Team sessions are conducted on site at your facility. Team sessions typically are scheduled for 1 hour and we offer a variety of options including weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or even quarterly.
In addition, individual service plans for employees can be discussed, giving your employees access to a package of therapy sessions or neurfoeedback sessions to support them in their mental well being.
One time workshops are also available, with a focus on a specific topic. For example, mindfulness, self-care, teamwork, etc. For more information on these options, please contact us here and let us know a little about your team.
